The fact Rick can even acknowledge his problems is a serious sign of growth. The character has been heavily flawed throughout the show but never acknowledged it and Rick prime offered moral justification for that ignorance but now that prime is dead he’s forced to live with who he is and confront his worst qualities and recognize them as problems. I don’t think this is evil Morty’s backstory it’s just a weak point for Rick but now Rick’s starting to see how these weak points are serious problems that need fixing I think the question won’t be “will he change” but will be “will they for forgive him” and I think that’s what they were trying to hint at with this episode
