@visual.healthlab: If spinal fusion is supposed to reduce pain, why do some patients say it changed their lives while others regret having it? This animation explains how spinal fusion works, what it’s designed to do, and why outcomes can vary from patient to patient. Have you had spinal fusion? What was your experience? #SpinalFusion #BackPain #Sciatica #SpineSurgery #chronicpain

I had ACDF nearly 20 years ago at 46….had ongoing recovery pain for a year….since then I’ve been fine…luckily so far no adjacent disc pain. Not

Dr Luther :
Because spinal fusion doesn't address the cause of the disc failure. The issue still remains.

I had an ALIF (Abdominal Lumbar Interbody Fusion). 2 surgeons preformed the surgery from my the front of my abdomen. 1 surgeon removed my organs, so the 2nd surgeon could get to my spine from the front of my body. He cut out the bad and damaged discs and replaced them with titanium spacers. Then they'll fuse together those discs. I have a 3" scar on my Abdomen from this procedure. It helped so much and I'd do it again.

I had it done over a year ago. I think it’s important to address your gluts, hip flexor and abductor as well because they were affected and it can continue causing back pain and leg pain even after surgery. Talk to your dr and therapist

L-4 L-5 laminectomy failed. L4 L5 spinal fusion fail. Waiting for an alif insignificant pain all the time just have to go through the process.

1994 Fusion L4-L5. That was 32 years ago. It took a good 5 years after to get back to normalcy. I’ve been a working remodeler ever since. In my 40’s I trained and ran numerous 10k and 2 full marathons 4:01:22 pr. Now I hit the weight pile and sauna daily. Thank you Kerlan-Jobe still moving.

I had two bulging disc's and severe stenosis. I had a choice between being possibly paralyzed or having it. Doctor told me it wouldn't help the pain and unfortunately it's still bad. I'd like to get off pain meds but I'm in pain.

For me the back fusion at L5-S1 ALIF I don’t have much pain in that area because of my restrictions and arthritis in it I learn how to work around it but while doing that it then triggers my sciatic nerve issues and that’s what is causing all my pain and it makes my quality of life worse and worse daily and it’s something I can’t over come or work around because every second of every day my sciatic nerve can cause me to be paralyzed in a deep breathe so but it has taken me 3 years to figure this out but I can’t tell you what will my pain will be today or tomorrow so what I do one minute I might not be able to do it the next

Lower back fusion 2012 I still have pain constantly feeling like it needs to pop numbness comes and goes but it's better than it was, disk replacement in neck 2 years ago pain gone but starting to come back (slightly different though) so as someone who has DDD it's probably a different disk going out

Best decision I’ve ever made L1-S1 fusion. Walk 4-5 miles five days a week, hike, lots of work to keep glutes and core strong. Age 62 and pain free!

A fusion will wear & tear the disc above, I should know I’ve had 2 neck fusions

I had L4-5 spinal fusion. My neurosurgeon said it is not 100 percent but I will feel better. I do feel better. I can tell the difference. I had nerve compression.

Laminectomy at 30. L5-s1 fusion at 32. L3 and L4 ADR at 35. I’m now 46 and doing a lot physically. Best choices I could have made.

I went in for a TLIF & woke up with laminectomy and facetectomy at L-3,4,5 & S-1 Without any Cages with hardware to big for my spine. No structure support and 7" scar on my back is still sinking and causing the skin to have ripples. Scar tissues has no support behind it. Now scar tissue is around the spinal column and nerves. L-5,6-1 bone on bone crushing nerves that control bladder and bowl. Now I need a high complex risky reconstruction from dobar bone hip for lumbar revision surgery. 12 Neurosurgeons turned me down for revision. Thought doctors take a oth to care about the human body. My L-3 that was peeled off of the dural spine causing a spinal fluid leak i still have. My will power and quality of life is gone 🦋

5 years post-op alif L5S1 and still 100% pain free. Changed my life. However, I am concerned about the future and the stress on the surrounding areas.

had 2 surgeries, after my 1st surgery my right foot went numb and could no longer wiggle my toes. a few months later I had my fusion at l4 and l5 hoping it would help. before any surgery I would have back pain on and off, now after both surgeries my pain is constant, never got any relief and still have a numb foot with a slight crooked right foot with no ankle support and now have a hard time with it. my ankle constantly rolls off I step on any little pebble. I think I made a bad choice. any suggestions
