States rights were the only reason the constitution was ratified. The guarantee of states rights was required before Southern states would sign on in the first place.

I remember when I first learned about the secession documents I was floored how anyone could have ever claimed it wasn’t about slavery. States rights meant I want to live in a state that gives me the right to own people and keep them in toil and bondage.

I’m not sure, but I seem to think near the end of the Declaration of lndependence native peoples are not referred to as equals. So whether it be North or South, I think only Rich white people were favored.
