Been running a saltwater pool for 5 years. I check levels weekly. I have never had to lower the pH. I clean the salt cell at the end of the season. My pool is made of resin, so no worries about corrosion, either. Any pool "pro" that tries to convince you it's not the better option, is simply afraid of how little they will be needed for future repair and maintenance calls

14 years with a salt water pool and we are over it. Replacing the salt cell every 3-5 years + the automation system motherboard 3 times. That doesn’t count the pump (on the 3rd). Bc there is a computer issue again causing the chlorine generator to not be operational, we are currently using chlorine and honestly, it’s easier. Not sure how it will compare cost wise yet but with spending at least $1000/year on a major repair + bags of salt + pH reducer + salt cell every few years, my guess is that it ends up shaking out about the same. 🤷♀️

I want a pool without chlorine or any chemicals entirely. I want to have schools of tropical fish in my pool while I swim.

A salt cell automates production, micro-dosing pure chlorine. Traditional chlorine costs $600–$1,350+ a year for a 20k pool plus you risk costly chlorine lock from tabs. A salt cell costs $800–$1,500 but lasts 5–7 years, costing only $100–$300 a year in maintenance.

10 years my Hayward Salt water pool system and still going strong. I just clean saltwater cell once a year.

coupled with a fiberglass pool, its the easy pool to maintain ever. only buy muriatic acid which is cheap. my water quality is very good. i never clean my salt cell, always clean. i only clean in october when i close.

Salt water is worth it until your salt generator dies. The cost to replace that thing is stupidly high. Chlorine tablets become way more appealing after that

I’ve got a saltwater pool. Loved it, until the salt generated broke. Now it’s too expensive to fix.

I originally had a salt chlorinated pool, but after the 4th burnt out motherboard. I was out. It was definitely easier to keep those chlorine levels stable. But repairs were expensive

Every bit of city water and softened well water has salt in it. Yes, it’s a lower concentration, but it does have salt content in it. The corrosion discussion is more for stagnant water and/or lack of maintenance/cleaning.
