@sunetglowdaily: Why are we so quick to push our kids out at 18? 🤍 Age doesn't decide readiness YOU do. Real love means supporting your kids until THEY'RE ready, not when a number says so. Mental health > arbitrary timelines. Our culture has always known: you don't stop being a parent at a birthday. Keep loving, keep showing up, keep your door open as long as they need it. 🏠💛 #HabeshaParenting #EthiopianMom #GentleParenting #ParentingTips #MentalHealthAwareness

I don’t think he’s saying to kick them out. He’s saying we should teach them to be independent so they can stand up for themselves. To be honest, I think we baby our children too much. I agree with him.

Please read the book “ Becoming “ by Michelle Obama, it would give you good insight about 3 generations experience of parenting, adulthood and how to prepare your kids to be out in the world.

oh my God we always have this conversation with our twins that we actually want them to stay from even when they go to college. and they are more than welcome to come back and save their money by a house travel the world to anything possible. that's why we suffer right now so that they have the opportunity that we did not have. I don't think he is a parent because if he was a parent in this economy he would not say that. thank you 🙏 our kids and our community are so volatiled right now they need all the support that they can get

Talking about western kids having mental illness how about u talk about our community who also struggle with mental illness because of toxic households and toxic parents. Other then that I mostly agree

This cultural practice is not unique to Ethiopia or Eritrea. In many countries, adult children stay at home until marriage. For example, in Italy, Greece, Portugal, many Eastern European nations, India, and Japan, this is normal. This also happens in much of the Middle East, including Israel, and many African countries. Family values, tradition, and cultural ties are deeply important. My friend, if you prefer North American or Anglo Saxon culture, that is fine, but just remember that tradition and family values matter deeply to many other parts of the world.

I love our culture and people, but I’m concerned about the way we make things easy for children. This upbringing may make them weak and irresponsible.

Your points are correct; however, the personal attack is unnecessary, especially as an adult.

I was 18 when i leave my parents house, it did make me very strong and independent. Most young kids will not be depressed because of the economy or because they work hard. It’s the opposite, what is more depressing than living at your parents basement at age 30? 🤷🏿‍♀️
