Not to downplay his impact but the genie was popular globally, it was the character not the voice that made the genie a phenomenon. It was the genie that made people globally go "you should check out the new Disney movie" I didn't even hear Robin's version until over 10 years later when the dvd came out

The technology was definitely the driving force behind Toy Story because it was groundbreaking. As a child seeing this at the cinema, it blew my mind. I wonder if the the actors involved would have got on board if it was a 'traditional ' animation?
