Stoners is just fantastic. I couldnt finish it first time i read it—i was too terrified. Have people noted it resembles Tolstoy’s Death of Ivan? It seems like more and more folks are discovering it. It belongs in the canon

Stoner and A gentleman in Moscow are my favorites. They made me cry and I have read them multiple times too. Now that you mentioned them … I wil read them again. Lovely post

I don’t people necessarily discover them too late - many of them will be greater reading experiences if you have a bit of lived life behind you. Not every book is for 18-year olds! (But some really are! There are books I wish I’d read when I was younger and more impressionable)

I'm 62, I'm just about to start reading Stoner (found it on a wall, walking home from a pub), I'm afraid I may find it ghosted autobiography.

I’ve read them all; agree with everything but Stoner. Not the book for me.
