They live nowhere else in the world, and they are among the most endangered marine mammals on the planet. They’re solitary, mostly spend time at sea, and come ashore to rest, molt, and give birth. U’I is hunting for small fish, octopus, squid, crustaceans, eels, and other bottom-dwelling prey. They are listed as endangered, and the population is still relatively small, with estimates around 1,600 individuals in recent sources. Took a picture of this guy, it had an N13 on it. When it came up all these people started running towards it 😭 don’t know what’s wrong with people! Thankfully a man came out and put the ropes out around it. I had a crazy good zoom lens and kept my distance :) they’re so special
