I understand that the Old Testament and Genesis mention a life for a life. But as Christians, we live under the New Covenant. Jesus took the death penalty upon himself on the cross so that we wouldn't have to deal in death anymore. If Jesus stopped an execution in John 8 and told us to love our enemies, our goal should be their repentance and salvation, not their execution."

THOU SHALT NOT KILL! Means MURDER!!!!!! it doesn't mean, you shalt not take the life of a murderer, it does not mean take a life of an enemy in war! If it does than God would be contradicting Himself. Read the word about how David was blessed in war. etc. Read the word about the law breakers who were on the crosses on each side of Jesus to be executed.
