@highstreetrock: Few harmony duos could deliver heartbreak quite like the Everly Brothers, and “Love Hurts” may be one of their finest examples. Recorded by the American duo The Everly Brothers in 1960, the song was written by Boudleaux Bryant, one of the most important songwriters behind the duo’s success. Unlike many of their more upbeat hits, “Love Hurts” leans into a quieter, more reflective side of their sound. Don and Phil Everly’s voices blend so naturally that the performance feels effortless, carrying a lyric that remains strikingly direct decades later. While later versions would become massive hits in their own right, the Everlys’ recording set the standard and showcased just how much emotion could be conveyed through a simple arrangement and two perfectly matched voices. Some songs never need updating. This is one of them. Which version of this song is your favorite?
