@mckgaston: The Wardian Case changed the world. “Created” in 1829 and published in 1842, the Wardian case increased plant survival from 1% to 95% leading the houseplant craze in England, the destruction of tea and rubber monopolies in China and Brazil, fueled imperial expansion, and the rapid spread of invasive species. The Wardian case saw decreased use in the 1940s as temperature control and plastics became available. #botany #horticulture #conservatories
