Turkey is not Somalia’s friend; it is in Somalia for its own interests. In the past, many Somalis believed that Turkey was a good and brotherly Muslim nation. However, many people now feel that Turkey is more interested in exploiting Somalia’s natural resources. This has been made possible by leaders who lack proper understanding of governance and are even willing to keep power beyond their mandate. If Turkey were truly acting as a sincere friend, it would focus on helping unite and reconcile the Somali people. That is what many ordinary Somalis have been hoping for. Instead, it appears to some that Turkey is supporting one side in order to advance its own interests and gain access to Somalia’s resources
