@gray.area.finance: Someone asked if I’d take £12,500 of my pension early. I didn’t even have to think about it 👇 #investinguk #investuk #investtok #investforbeginners #investingforbeginners

I don't believe a word of it. Even if it does happen the catch will be too harmful to make it worth it.

They’ll raise the state pension by 5 years every 4 years as I get older as it is. So might as well add another year and retire at 99 😂

if the UK government actually gives us something that generous, I'll be genuinely mind blown

At 35 I’m taking that and it’s going straight into the market. Seem like a no brainer.

I'm convinced it's to get low paid workers to be ineligible for UC, because you can't have more than £6k savings without being penalised or having your claim closed.

It’s an amazing idea but will not happen, the government of the day would have to agree to pay out money and the savings of that money wouldn’t come for decades Down the line.

Being real here for a second, how could the government afford to fund this if everyone eligible signed up to it?

The government could invest the £12.5k per person into extra services for young people… education, youth training schemes etc. they just don’t want to!

I'd take it, put some/all of it in my S&S, because you're not guaranteed to get to retirement and the retirement age changes so much

im betting on them restricting it to the purchase of properties, not new builds though. it looks like its just an attempt to transfer our future wealth into the pockets of older generations...and/or bolster the current decline in the housing market leading to huge price rises over the next 5-10 years

seems to good to be true, whats the catch? it likely can only be used on a deposit for a mortgage. you will still pay national insurance for another year. if youre earning over 50k national insurance would be about £3k a year. whilst you get about 4 years back. hmm, stocks + compound growth would be great but its if they allow you to put it in the stock market or if they tell where, when and what you can spend it on? i dont trust this goverment, they will probably say you can only spend it on solar power and heat pumps 🤣

Won’t happen due to cost but it could make sense as a lot of people could buy homes, a lot of people could start businesses or a lot of people could invest so the government could make money back but the initial outlay I couldn’t see happening

As long as you invested it it would be worth it but most won’t, they’ll spent it to pay off debt or do work to their house

I’m a similar age to you and tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if we never see a state pension so it’s a no brainer for me
