the canon issue is often oversimplified by people on either side of the debate, the truth is the inspiration of those books was questioned consistently throughout church history and you could find important figures from any era that supported either canon partially

A lot of Gnostics claim it today and say the 144,000 is an esoteric explanation of opening up your chakras. 7 chakras totaling 144,000 petals. Due to many different understandings I can see why it was debated but also see why it was left in.

Apocalypses are the only prophetical books of New Testament, in opposite of many prophetical books of Old testament, officially IS ACCEPTED ONLY JOHN APOXALYPSE, But unofficially are many, like Paul's apocalypse etc,

God calls us to scrutinize all things and hold them to scripture to see if they fit. Not thw text mind you but what Jesus taught and what the apostles spoke as well. That any revelations contradictory to these is heretical.
