As a submarine veteran, this amazes me. We actually had better sleeping accommodations on Ohio Class submarines. Pretty close to the same rack size and storage area, but only 9 man bunk rooms.

I WAS IN THE MIDDLE!!!!!!! It was CRAZY!!!!! I was on the Vinson! It’s all true!!!! In the squadron you work 13-15 hours a day 24/7. Dates for Liberty were essential & always on a countdown!!!!

They got it wrong. Coffin rack is called a coffin rack because the place where you store your clothes opens up like a coffin.

Plush living!!!! I spent 30 active duty on fast attack submarines. During my early years I slept in the torpedo room on a military blow up mattress that held air just long enough for me to fall asleep. Had racks that you had to get out to turn over. So forgive me if I’m not feeling the plush living arrangements on aircraft carriers.
