I think Chris admired Wesker a lot as a leader. Wesker seemed to be the kind of person who brought discipline and structure to Chris's naturally rebellious and impulsive personality. Chris has always had a tendency to challenge authority when he believes something is wrong, so following orders was probably never easy for him. But with Wesker, it felt different. There was genuine respect there. In a way, I think Chris wanted someone he could look up to—someone capable enough to keep him grounded and push him to be better. Wesker's confidence, intelligence, combat skills, and leadership naturally earned Chris's admiration. That's why the betrayal hit so hard. It wasn't just that Wesker turned out to be the enemy. It was the realization that the man Chris respected, trusted, and perhaps even saw as a mentor had been lying to everyone from the beginning. The person he looked up to most was never the hero Chris believed him to be. I think Chris genuinely admired Wesker's abilities and leadership, and that's what makes their rivalry so tragic. Chris didn't just lose a captain—he lost someone he respected. Discovering that all of those qualities were being used for selfish and evil goals must have shattered him on a personal level, which is why Wesker's betrayal affected him far more deeply than most people realize.
