@instituteofhumananatomy: 😮 Blood clots in veins can grow over two feet long — and you might not even feel it happening. DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) is a clot that forms in the deep veins, most commonly in the legs or pelvis. And unlike arterial clots — which immediately cut off oxygen-rich blood to tissues — venous clots don't cause that same instant emergency. Here's why: Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart, and the venous system has far more collateral pathways than arteries. So when a clot forms in a deep vein, blood can often reroute around it — which is exactly how these clots can grow so large without triggering an immediate crisis. 🩸 But don't mistake "silent" for "safe." Many people experience pain, swelling, warmth, and redness in the affected limb. Others feel nothing at all — which can actually be more dangerous because the warning signs go unnoticed. ⚠️ Follow for more anatomical awesomeness! #tiktoklearningcampaign #anatomy #humananatomy #bloodclots #DVT #deepveinthrombosis #bloodclotawareness #hematology #veins #circulatorysystem #physiology #anatomyandphysiology #healthscience #medschool #premed #learnontiktok

I had dvt but didn't know it. No symptoms at all. Ended up with 8 clots in my lungs.

I survived a massive dvt/saddle PE. I was nearly dead but felt no pain ( unusual, evidently). I would be alright passing from that.
