I’m a journeyman and my son went to school for 6 years paid 450k but now he’s making that a year why would I want him to beat his body and have to work all the overtime like me just to make 100-180k a year

It makes sense if you’re academically successful. Although I don’t have a bachelors, but I have a graduate degree. I will out-earn nearly every tradesman, working 3 days a week.

No ones against trades. But its a hard job. Some poeple rather make 80k in an office than 120k being in trades. If you are good academically and pick a good major. You won't have that much issues finding a job. Im an anesthesiologist. Im 33. First job was 650k. This year may make 725k. I am still 200k in school debt. If you compare me to a tradesman who went after high school. They definitely have more saved. But what about in 10 years? And 20 years?

there is positives to both sides I have kids on separate trajectories I am in the trades and do well but not everyone is cut out for the same thing I can't sit in a office its beat up my body but some can and do well it's a individual thing but AI can't build a house or replace a bathroom but AI can predict wich stocks will do better and might be able to do what most accounts do

I wouldn’t want my kids doing this work. it can be back breaking. Sure it’s rewarding but I’d rather them get a better education and strive for better.

I here yah... I'm in the Boston trades. But sometimes I wonder what it would be like showing up at 9, playing golf during lunch, 6 weeks vacation per yr, working from home(boat)... stuff like that. don't get me wrong, I own a boat... but I'm too busy working all the time.

I took a different path. I went to med school. I have a bunch of rental properties now because I’ve invested my money currently have eight figures in the bank. I think I made the right choice. Good luck to those trying to figure it out though.

As a carpenter, with a degree you could get a job you can do for the rest of your life, the trades aren’t made to be done for your whole life you body deteriorates over time from hard labor
