Honesty went a long way with me and my team. “I’m new to being a manager, I’m going to make mistakes and I need you to let me know when I can be better and how I can better show up for you”.

One on ones with a new team is always an important first step.

Excellent advice — meet-and-greet (or how’m I doin’ so far) 1x1s will give each person a chance to see you through a clear lens, and you can invite them to give you the context they want you to have. If it seems you’re on the outside, ask if you could be invited in by showing what type of collaborator you want to be.

I’ve found that gaining trust the first time is easier than regaining trust lost. If you make a mistake, own up to it or they’ll distrust you forever after that

Be fair consistent and truthful. They will learn to respect you even if they don’t like you.

I feel like being an adult in the workplacs is a worse version of high school ... absolutely ridiculous to treat ppl weird when we all just need a check to survive lol

Everyone agreeing one on one's are the ticket. I think just leading is. Be the leader you would want to follow. Show them you're capable of their trust.

Just from this video, my first impression is they’re one of the good ones. Hopefully their employees will see it and give them a chance

One on one's are great! Giving people their flowers are good too randomly. One of our departments have monthly team building exercises where they do bingo, charades, or whatever and allow for there to be a winner of the event where the winner gets a $10 gift card to a fast food place or Amazon. Think about things you would like as an employee! You have to cultivate an environment of trust and that definitely takes time.

As a manager of 7 myself - I’m thrilled they’ve become chummy and close with one another and not myself. The separation is healthy… become friends with other managers and simply support their career as objectively as possible

One on one's are golden. All my bosses and managers have done them in my adult career except one, and I don't really know if he's reliable or not, whether I'm performing well or not, if he cares about my career goals or not-- even if he likes me interpersonally or not. I know nothing about him and it makes my office anxiety skyrocket. They're great for breaking the ice and setting expectations. I miss working with people like that.

George, I want to thank you for your content. Everyone else who did content like this started to do “part 2” for every single video. Stay away from that and I’ll watch everything you bring out! (Ps. An actual update is allowed a part 2, but every video being split in 2 is not)

I'm not their friends and I prefer that. as long as they do that I don't care. I give praise and hold them accountable when necessary

Funny. As a boss, many people were comfortable with me and chatted quite naturally. Others, it was always a strange barrier. I’m fairly open and chill, but there really wasn’t anything I could do to change how they feel about “the boss”. But… I’m not there to be your bud, so I let it pass.

I’ve done this many times. Spending time with each member one on one is the ticket. Spend time sitting with each member of your team observing what they do and helping them do it. It builds rapport and the relationship. But at the end of the day, you’re not going to win everyone over. You’re not paid to make sure everyone likes you.
