dont forget that you have to already be accepted to a program to even qualify to apply. so if you couldn't afford it without the scholarship, you cant even APPLY for the scholarship. im 26 and still not over this, I tried so hard, but couldn't afford to even apply

Mhmm. And then the few that you do qualify for will be like… write a 1000 word statement of intent and a 500 word biographical statement about how you’ve been shaped by your experiences and get three letters of recommendation from professors and fill out this EXTREMELY lengthy online form and send in official copies of all transcripts, and then, if you win, we will give you…. $150. Like. No? I would need to get so many of those little tiny scholarships for it to make any difference, and my profs can only write so many letters of recommendation

lol in 2015 they gave me a packet of scholarships. I read it cover to cover. The only one I qualified for was a $500 grant for being a student graduating in my state.

as a native american undergrad (Yakama-Colville) Let me tell you that the scholarships tailored towards us typically have incredibly low chances of actually being picked due to insane requirements or large amount of applicants towards the same five scholarships.

We had a directory of scholarships in a state specific program we used in my senior college and career readiness class. A vast majority of them were for students that had parents die in 9/11………. I’m from Oregon.

I was told this by my mother, she even paid like, $25 to sign me up for a website specifically meant to search and find scholarships. I applied to a good many, I got two. one was my huge one and nearly a full ride, but I had to interview and be selected for it, and the requirements for all 4 years were tough since it's an honors program. I so easily could have not been selected for it and only been left with my tiny one. There may be a few success stories where people pay entirely with scholarships, but it is not the norm, and acting like those who don't have any scholarships are lazy is just cruel.
