We probably do have WC signs for toilets but yep, I don't think I've ever said "water closet". I know that's what WC means, but we really never use that term.

Water closet was used to describe Queen Elizabeth 1 first toilet. Nobody in my lifetime has ever said it though

I lived in England and Scotland for 5 years. WC is still used. Toilet is used more often.

WC means Water Cistern . The cistern is the part that holds the water.

im from u.k and a water closet is not used EVER so not within our used terminology that's why. w.c was on the signs but never knew what it even standed for im.56

The sign stands for watercloset, everybody know that. But nobody calls it that. In the Netherlands we say Wécé.
