Trademarks can be revoked. If you and other creators all submitted letters of protest to the USPTO, it can and most likely will be revoked with enough uproar. Public protest is BAD for trademarks. There are mountains of evidence that “hot girl” is a common phrase used to describe many events, things, etc. I wanna see the people winnnnnn

The thing is- her trademark only covers events being marketed with the phrase and retail so merch with the phrase. The trademark does not protect her phrase in social media posts or hashtags. She has just never been challenged in court where a judge clarifies what she can and can’t do

Meanwhile she’s claiming she created the term but she has Megan’s songs on her official playlist. Hot girl summer came out a year before covid in 2019 and she’s claiming she started her walking club in 2020. All her inspiration came from Megan and I hope Megan’s team challenges her trademark.

A lot of lawyers on here have said that unless you’re trying to make money off of the phrase you can still use it. But also, it seems like people are already challenging her trade mark so she will eventually lose it.

She sent the org I founded a C&D in 2024 threatening us with a lawsuit. We had NEVER profited off the term, and we had only used the hashtag a handful of times. It’s never been about the money for us. We just want to walk and make friends so it was devastating to receive.
