Pov: You were always the quiet one in the friend group - the one who just smiled, nodded and listened to others talk about their boyfriends, first kisses, breakups and falling in love. Everytime the conversation shifted to romance, your heart ached a little as you also wished for something like that. "Why don't you ever go on blind dates?" "You don't even give them a chance." You'd heard it so many times that you stopped trying to explain yourself. It wasn't that you were afraid of dating. It wasn't that your standards were impossibly high or that you enjoyed being alone more. It was simply that every time someone confessed to you or asked you out, you just didn't feel anything. No curiosity. No spark. They couldn't understand why you never put in any effort, why you never agreed to "just one date" to see where things might go. But you believed it wasn't worth it unless there was a feeling that made you want to know more about them. Something that wasn't forced, but natural. It was a long, exhausting day at work but you still agreed to grab a drink with your friends. Walking down the street just a few metres from the restaurant, you noticed someone squatting right in the middle of the road. At first, you thought he was just tying his shoelaces but several minutes passed and he still didn't move - all the cars driving dangerously past him. Refusing to just keep on walking, you decided to check on him. As you approached him, you raised your voice over the traffic: "Are yo-" Before you could finish he suddenly stood up and spun around. The movement was so abrupt that you barely registered him colliding with you, making you lose balance. But before you could fall a pair of strong hands caught you by the waist, steadying you firmly in place. You looked up, your tongue suddenly tied. Before your eyes even focused on his face, the cool wave of his cologne wrapped around your body like a refreshing breeze on a hot summer day. Slowly, you noticed his sharp jawline and deep brown eyes with thick eyelashes staring at you. His gaze was intense yet unexpectedly soft, holding yours for a second more than necessary. "Are you okay?" his voice was lower than you expected, a little raspy. He didn't immediately let go of your waist and for the first time in your life, you didn't feel the need to pull away. Instead, your heart raced with the sudden proximity - the warmth of his hands through your coat, the way his eyes glistened in the streetlight. "I-yeah. I'm fine," you stammered, your voice barely above a whisper. "I just... I saw you crouching in the street. I thought you were hurt or something." A soft smile tugged at the corner of his lips, instantly softening the sharp angles of his face. He finally eased his grip on your waist, though his hands lingered in the air for a second before he tucked them into his jacket pockets. "Ah. Right," he rubbed the back of his neck, looking down at the asphalt between you two. "My ring fell out of my pocket while I was crossing the street. My grandfather gave it to me, so it's kind of precious to me. Probably wasn't the smartest move with traffic, though." He chuckled softly looking around. The guy wasn't trying to charm you. He wasn't dropping any lines the way guys usually did when they approached you at bars. He was just standing there. Right now, you didn't want to walk away. You somehow wanted to know his name. "Well," you said, a tiny, genuine smile slipping. "I'm glad you found it. But next time, maybe try not to get run over." He let out a short, quiet laugh. "I'll keep that in mind. I'm Jay, by the way." "I'm..." Before you could finish, your phone buzzed violently in your hand - a text from your friend group asking where you were. You glanced down at the screen, then back up at Jay. He was watching you, waiting patiently, making no move to hurry you. +++ comment section #jaypov #enhypenpov #jay #enhypen #fyp
