Male and female brown ears are only together for breeding then they stay away from one another, for this EXACT REASON. I am sick to my stomach, that zoo is a shame.

As someone who works at the Dallas Zoo in Texas, this is heartbreaking. zoos that have an AZA accreditation are zoos that truly care and put in the work to make sure their facility is perfect for the animals. animal welfare is extremely important and the priority to AZA and the facilities they give their accreditation to. The Alaska Zoo is NOT accredited by AZA and it shows. I hope Kitty is getting the proper veterinary care she needs and hope she and the other animals i. the zoo get transferred to an AZA zoo soon 🫶🏽

From everything I’ve seen, this wasn’t a case where the bear was starving, injured, or in immediate danger. It was a regulatory issue. Alaska doesn’t need to copy every Lower 48 rule just because someone thinks it looks better on paper. The bear spent years with its owner, appeared healthy, and had a clear bond with the person caring for her. If the state is going to remove an animal from a long-term caretaker, the public should be able to see a clear welfare benefit. Right now, a lot of people look at the before-and-after and are asking why the bear wasn’t simply left where she was. 🐻❄️
