The psoas major is one of the most powerful hip flexors in the human body, sitting deep in the abdominal cavity right next to the spine. Paired with the iliacus, it forms the most dominant hip flexor group in the body. Everybody has this one. 💯 But the psoas minor? That's a different story. It's a smaller, variable muscle that not everyone has — and on this cadaver dissection you can actually spot its tiny tendon hiding beneath the tissue. 🔬 When it is present, it assists with hip flexion, lumbar spine flexion, and pelvic stabilization. But since the psoas major and iliacus already handle the heavy lifting, the psoas minor is essentially optional equipment.
