@chelsie_sewell: “hurt people hurt people” this was my go-to when i needed an excuse for the way someone was treating me. they had a hard childhood, or a hard day, or went through something hurtful. they didn’t mean it when they screamed at me. or called me curse words. or belittled me. they were just hurting. and yes, that phrase is true. hurt people do hurt people. but that doesn’t make it an excuse either. hurt people can also heal people. there is evidence of that all around us. and as a grown woman who has been hurt by hurt people, and who has watched the people i love be hurt by hurt people, frankly i’m sick of us excusing their behavior. hurt people, hurting people is a choice. not holding them accountable doesn’t help them. and it doesn’t help us either. because there’s never an excuse for cruelty no matter what you’ve been through. if i can still show up in this world with love, empathy, and kindness after what i have survived then so can everybody else. and i think that should be the global standard. period. follow along if you’re learning to rebuild after survival mode too 🫶🏽 #emotionalgrowth #divorcerecovery #abusesurvivor #selfrespect #HealingJourney
