I lost my cool today, and I was in a puddle of tears. but I got myself together and talked to my daughter about it and apologized for my behavior. and for the first time I felt like I wanted my mom, but not MY mom. I wanted to pick up the phone and call someone but there was no one to call. this shit is HARD. especially when there's no village because you're the scapegoat and the only one trying to break the cycle😪

what if people don’t have time to stop or do any of those things or take care of themselves?

My dad’s death and having to face my mom alone was the catalyst for change for me. WHEW it’s been a ride and I know it’s still more to come 😭

That’s it. I’m doing a week of mourning to say my parents are dead to me

The grief came out of nowhere. I left work early and I stayed home for two days before I recovered.

Being grateful for knowing better and doing better for your kids, but still feeling so alone

thanks for saying this. I wondered why I was grieving more after becoming a mum. I see so much of myself in my kid; initial response (in my body and mind) is how my parents responded. Creating new neuropath ways: I meet my kid's needs. Then wonder how a parent chooses the option that breaks their kid's hearts rather than meet their needs. Then I give myself a hug🫂

lost the family business and my dad within the same week of 2024, haven't actually dealt with that grief and it has definitely harmed my parenting abilities

I remember feeling so frustrated that I was a “good“ mom and my kids would misbehave, but I had neglectful parents and was a “perfect” child. I get it now.

I have a parent in recovery from a substance abuse issue. I was her therapist as a child, but was not allowed to have my own feelings. Took years of therapy to stop intellectualizing my feelings. She says that people in "her generation" didn't need all this therapy like we do nowadays (when clearly her coping skills are not healthy), and now she's telling me I'm parenting wrong because I let my daughter cry and be upset. "You could stop her from all that crying if you wanted to." I don't want to stop her from feeling!
Oh, and she also wonders why I'm distant...
