i think when he talks about heat and light, as stated he's talking from the perspective of physics. heat is actual thermal energy related to the motion of particles(the faster the particles move, the more thermal energy they have) cold isn't its own kind of energy. there's no such thing as “cold energy,” and in physics we don't talk about “cold” being transferred, what happens is that heat is transferred from a warmer object to a cooler one, so when something gets cold it's because it has less thermal energy, not because cold itself is being added. the same idea applies to light and darkness. light has photons and also behaves like a wave, while darkness doesn't have its own particles or waves. there aren't any “darkness particles”. a room is dark simply because there are no photons reaching it or there's very minimal of it. because of that, I don't think you can reverse the analogy and say that heat is just the absence of cold or that light is just the absence of darkness. in physics heat has its own physical reality because it is thermal energy, and light has its own physical reality because it consists of photons. cold doesn't have its own energy, and darkness doesn't have its own particles, so they're understood as the absence or lack of heat and light, not the other way around. that doesn't mean cold and darkness aren't real but they don't have the same kind of independent physical status as heat and light meaning they can't exist by themselves...

I feel it is so gymnastic. Therefore both are simply positive and negative perspectives. If cold exists, hotness does not exist and vice versa with actual physical experience. But the mind is a predictable machine, therefore even the body experiences coldness, the mind knows hotness and how your body feels in good and bad ways too about it.
