Judge Timothy Mazzei didn't pull punches with his assessment of the Gilgo Beach Serial Killer, Rex Heuermann, as he sentenced him June 17 to life without parole in prison. "You're a disgusting and despicable small man, If you're a man at all! And you're a coward!" Mazzei said, following up by questioning if Heuermann felt any remorse for his crimes. "The words I would say have no meaning," Heuermann said, after Mazzei raked him over the coals to illicit a bare-minimum apology. Heuermann's sentence comes after he pleaded guilty earlier in 2026 to the murders of seven women he strangled to death and dismembered in the New York area between 1993 and 2011.
