Update on Apple ❤️‍🩹 Yesterday, after seeing Apple’s plea, I messaged Strong Paws and asked if they could help and they didn’t hesitate to say yes. Within hours, they had stepped up for her and now she’s at VERGI Animal Hospitial. Dogs in this condition can crash quickly, I’m sure most of you remember my foster Opal in similar condition. Unfortunately Apple’s sister was already fading and the shelter had to euthanize her to prevent further suffering. The good news is that Apple is hanging in there. She’s severely dehydrated, anemic, has fleas, and underweight, but her bloodwork wasn’t nearly as catastrophic as we feared. Her liver values are a little off which isn’t surprising considering how emaciated she is, and while she may still need a transfusion as they continue rehydrating her, she doesn’t need one right now. She got a medicated bath, lots of TLC, and for the first time in who knows how long, she’s being cared for instead of ignored. Her X rays were surprisingly encouraging. No obstruction, no major surprises, and the vet even told us he’s seen dogs recover from worse. They found some inflammation in one of her knees that they’ll keep an eye on, and they expect she’ll have some parasites, but overall she’s stable and that’s a huge win. The plan is to keep her overnight. Nola has a long road ahead of her, but after everything she’s been through, she’s finally got people in her corner. Her rescue is already being estimated thousands for her hospital bills so I did start a fundraiser for them in my Instagram bio.
