@emperorhistorian1: How did the English lose the Hundred Years’ War? When they seemed destined to win one of the great conflicts of the Middle Ages. France against England all for the royal crown of France. Knights duelled it out in some of histories most famous battles and in the end the odds were always stacked up against the English kings and yet they would often do better than expected #englishhistory #medieval #knights #story #historytok

They lost because Joan of Arc had a vision from God

The 100 years war wasn't England v France. It was England plus Burgundy and the English supporting parts of France against the central government of France. England lost because Henry V did and the French developed cannons which negated the advantage of the longbow and unified France.

We didn’t lose. We just didn’t like being so close to the French, so we just went home🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

even if the English won, the French would win as the English king would just move to France and become French

I agree, except I think Henry V is the one exception. Had he lived, he would have inherited the crown and kept his Burgundian alliances and at least ruled Normandy and parts of Aquitaine. That is about the best victory the English could hope for

The English lost when Henry V died. obviously they still controlled territory for years but really Henry V was the one holding the whole victory together.

If they wanted to win, they gotta turn the clock back to 1204 and have John keep the Angevin empire. Or somehow pressure the pope to allow the marriage of Edmund Langley and Margaret of Flanders. Or have John of gaunt marry her instead of Constance of Castile

I imagine if he didn't move the capital to his holdings in France somewhere he would not be close enough to keep it.

The hundred war is not a national war its war between the two most powerful French family, one on the French throne the one the second on English throne, if the Anjou dynasty win england just became a French région by default. The lose of this war as permitted the rise of anglo-saxons nobles. England was never the big deal in this war it was all about French men fighting for the French throne simply as that

Lose? We humiliated them for over a century, burnt Joan of Arc at the Stake in France and then left after we had priorities elsewhere🥀🙏

It’s a shame Richard the Lionhearted died from that damn bolt. He beat the brakes off the French when he returned. He got the Angevin Empire back and chased Philip all over. That should have been the line going forward. England and Angevin.
