I think the “rule of cool” is the best thing in DND, like yeah it failed but what you did was either so cool or so funny it’s gonna work anyways

Ryan Orpen :
its a very common thing for a great DM to do, whenever you hear Matt Mercer say 'ill allow it' he's bending the rules to keep the fun going

We have a rule at our table, that your speech matters more than the dice like based on the quality of your speech depends on if you get advantage disadvantage, etc. I was able to stop the bbeg of out campaig with my speech z

It does say the GM has final say on all rules. What you discribed is "Divine intervention"

Mad Heretek :
Rule 0 is that the DM can alter anything in the rules as needed to make the game fun and appealing for the entire table, I think this definitely falls under that. If you give a badass speech in character and pump up the rest of the party, I don’t care what the dice say, you succeed on your role.

Don’t forget, failure doesn’t mean not accomplishing a goal. Just that they didnt do it the way they want. Nat 1 a sleight of hand in the castle jail? “The lock gives an ear splitting screech as the tumblers finally move and the door swings open. You can hear the guards stomping above you. You have 4 turns until they get down here”

nha if it faild it faild but it can faild successfully if tou roll a nat 1 on a charisma chec it gonna break the immersion if you play like the guys roll a 20 but you can make like the guys roll a 1 but still convince the other

Rule of Cool and DM’s Discretion. If y’all impress me but the dice roll is too low I’ll just let you pass. This is a game and is meant to be fun. I’ll always go with the funnier/more interesting/furthers the plot option everyday.

my DM actually does this for charisma checks, the DC is based on what I say.

Why would I send this to my players? I already knew this and it works better if they don’t know I’m using this technique.

You only have to make them roll if you want risk, if they make a convincing argument then just give them a success

I always tell my players that I add an "invisible" role play modifier depending on how they role play it, and that always works really well for my table
