@thedavidbegnaud: Throwback to sitting across from Oprah Winfrey. The woman whose show was my refuge growing up, telling me about the man who was hers. Oprah was the kid sitting alone in a chaotic cafeteria with a book. One man noticed, and what he said changed the course of her life: "You're not like all the other kids. I'm going to get you out of this school." Before she became one of the most influential voices of our time, before the Oprah Winfrey Show, the school, and the global community she built on empathy and connection, Oprah was a lonely, introverted seventh grader being bused across town and quietly carrying things no child should carry. Eugene Abrams wasn't even her teacher. He was a researcher passing through who saw one curious girl in the noise and decided she deserved more. He got her into a better school and helped her step through the door. Sometimes the person who changes everything is someone who simply refused to look past you. #oprah #podcasts
