My family has lived in San Francisco since the 40s if you have questions reach out. I’ve ever seen in my life and you can find affordable neighborhoods to stay in all over this city specifically and the Bay Area in general. Don’t let this discourage you from visiting. San Francisco is one of the few best cities in the world.
