 Every button press inside this machine triggers a chain of mechanical movements that records values, updates internal counters, and prepares the next step of the transaction. What sounds like a simple click is actually dozens of components working together in perfect sequence. As individual amounts are entered, the register automatically adds them together and displays the running total on rotating number wheels. After the customer payment amount is entered, the machine calculates the change due without any digital electronics. The final step is the most recognizable. A sharp bell rings, the cash drawer pops open, and a receipt is mechanically printed with the itemized transaction, total, amount tendered, and change owed. Built by NCR, machines like the National Class 51 helped define retail transactions long before modern point of sale systems existed. No copyright infringement intended.
