My marketing teacher in college mentioned they should turn some of these abandoned malls into nursing homes and have shops come in and work so its all under one roof. I think turning them into living spaces would be a FANTASTIC idea!!!!

A lot of times the the plumbing and electrical infrastructure would need to be retrofitted to be suitable for residential use. The cost to retrofit would be more expensive than tearing it down and creating new apartments. There’s specific building codes that depend on whether it’s for commercial or residential use.
