@locsofsass: #Repost @blackcultureandhistory Following the cancellation of The Richard Pryor Show in 1977, Richard Pryor gave an interview discussing racism, capitalism, and power in America. Pryor argued that racism was intentionally used to divide poor and working class Americans so they would not unite against larger economic systems and wealthy elites. “Capitalism needs racism to function,” Pryor said. “They keep people separated by race so they never figure out who the real problem is.” The comedian also suggested that television executives feared the impact of his voice and platform, claiming he believed networks worried he might “stop some racism” by bringing people together through comedy and conversation. The Richard Pryor Show aired on NBC for just four episodes before being canceled, but Pryor’s interview afterward remains one of his most discussed political and social commentaries. #BlackHistory #juneteenth #fyp #ffyypp
