I think a smaller budget forces people to get creative, that applies to anything not just films

I think this is such an interesting conversation! I think Backrooms and Obsession will make waves in a way that studios are going to keep looking for young proven talent with built in audiences. These young directors have proved they can make high quality content on low budgets. I think YouTube would be smart to make an arm of their business similar to A24 to bring their creator’s stories to the big screen

Hollywood is absolutely going to think that Backrooms' success was from the source material instead of hiring talented creatives.

I think horror has always been an interesting genre for studios. Horror fans don’t put as much prestige in director, actors, etc. and rather turn out to support well made films. It’s no wonder that the most profitable films of all time are horror films. I hope studios begin to feel more comfortable taking risks on younger talents knowing they can be successful ventures

As a film student their success makes the prospect of ever getting into the industry seem more feasible. I couldn’t be happier with their success and I’m excited to see the future of movies

I think Hollywood can definitely learn from the successes of Obsession and Backrooms. They really need to pay attention because they missed the lesson that John Wick taught: you start with a strong, lower budget movie, get people to watch it and enjoy it, deliver a bigger, but still modestly budgeted, sequel and profit off of that. John Wick 4 had the highest budget of the franchise at $100 million but it didn’t start that way. By the time Chapter 4 released people were hooked and the movie was a success. These movies with astronomical budgets that ultimately wind up flopping just aren’t sustainable. Something’s got to give.
