@saltyoccasionallysweet: Tipping is nothing new in this country. “Well the restaurant should be paying you a livable wage,” they’re not so either tip on the service you receive or don’t go out to a restaurant #restaurantetiquette #tippingculture #livablewage #server #restaurant
I tip well, but it’s not mandatory. Those jobs are choices.

it's not customers job to pay the restaurants employees though. tips are a gift not mandatory even if you have the money

I don’t think people understand how much more expensive going out to eat would be if we didn’t do tipping. Your 20$ steak is now going to be around 50$

Never tip! by law the company they work for has to pay them up to the state minimum wage if they don’t average and make minimum wage in tips doing that shift.. people need to stop giving tips unless the person goes up and beyond an gave amazing service. Otherwise let their company pay them minimum wage like they are worth

we aren't taking money from anyone it our money and we choose not to give it away. it is your employer responsibility to pay you.posts like this is exactly why many don't tip . you can't shame people into tipping. #notip2026

Yes, they SHOULD be paying their employees a livable wage. But they aren’t. So “boycotting” tipping is not going to change that. Never question why servers are short staffed if you don’t tip.

Yeah we don’t care. Your boss should pay you a decent salary and tips are extra. Tips are not your salary. In Canada servers are paid around 14$/hour and we do tip on top of that.

Shitty service means no tip, good service 10%, amazing 25%. You’re not owed a tip right off the bat you have to earn it.

I dont tip cuz i cant afford it. And if you say then I cant afford to eat out, thats incorrect. Since tipping is optional, it isnt automatically counted as part of eating out. So I can afford to eat out. I just cant afford to tip. For the record, I do sometimes. Just very rarely

Honest question: why am I supposed to tip more for a steak dinner vs a pasta dinner? The work is the same, you took my order, carried a plate to me.

Excellent service is part of the expectation when you go to a restaurant. You’re paying for that, when you pay for your food. You should be asking your employer to pay your wage instead of asking me.

I don’t mind tipping a server at a sit down restaurant. My problem is everything else people expect to be tipped for! The other day I ordered on the Wendy’s app, went in to get my food and there was a tip jar on the door dash/mobile shelf. Why?!?!? Or when I pay $300 for my kid to get hi lites and a cut or I pay $1000 for a tattoo. Thats the kind of thing I have a problem tipping for!

But I didn’t bring a contract to the restaurant. How can I hire you? How should I pay you if you’re working part time for other tables too? Is $10/hour appropriate if you have 6 other tables? 😅
