@sheetmetalsamurai: Why Two 45° Miters Create a Perfect 90° Corner Ever wonder why two 45° miters make a perfect 90° corner? In this video, I break down the geometry behind mitered sheet metal and show why the .707 multiplier works. Once you understand where .707 comes from, miter layouts start making a lot more sense. #metalfabrication #fabrication #metalworking #layout #sheetmetal

however if you just cut it with a giant chop saw with the angle at 45° for both pieces. all the edges would line up and you don't have to do any math

Can you dig more into why you use .707 sometime?

way easier way, measure the width, transfer the width along the length and mark it, boom there's your short point. mark 45° on the top and bottom tab from your long and short point. then on the angled middle section draw a line connecting the 2 points you previously marked where they meet on the middle angled section, there's your line, no need to find the angle, it is what it is.

do you use the 0.707 to all designs or that's could depend on the design

you couldve just used one of the big speed squares. wouldve had to makes sure to go slow when marking the center while looking down but it still would've been fine

ok i get how you did it but why dive by the square root of 2 and what if the middle section was longer or shorter would it still work and what if you need a different angle

When you draw your line down the 4” section how did you know where the other end was? Or was it on a 45 from the number you came up with?
