your not charging enough. those that say you're too expensive can't afford to do the job anyway bump your rates And you will get attract the people that can afford to do the jobs properly. and they just care about quality.

Protip. The customer will ALWAYS say someone charges too much. I’m in the same line of work and am literally half the cost of the big guys here in town. Most folks just don’t know how expensive a plumbing repair really is. Ive left customers for 6 months to have them calling back and damn near begging me to come service them again after having to use the larger services. I charge a 125$ trip which includes the first hour, then 65 an hour after that for basic handyman things. There is also a “while your here” time max of an hour (or two) beyond any scheduled repair. You know folks get excited when someone who can fix it all is in the home :). Keep it up man, we are needed for sure

It shouldn’t cost me a whole day’s pay for an hour of a handyman’s time. That’s why I just learn how to do it on YouTube. Also…I pay for my own gas to get to work. I also make my own car payments and don’t charge my employer to cover that for me.

I'm an insurance adjuster so I know very well exactly how much things cost, what the avg labor rates are in my area, etc. I hired a handyman for some small projects while my husband was injured. When he was done I told him that he wasn't charging enough for how solid his work was. I told him the avg rates in town and said he was way too good at this job to be charging those rates. He said "I know, but it's the only way I can get work right now." He started to tear up! I sent the poor guy home with cookies and a big tip. It's tough out here

When you’re setting your prices, you need to think about what the value of the work is not what you need. Yes, making ends meet is a very important thing, but not to your customer. They want to pay you to install their light fixture, they don’t want to pay you to fix your tools…

It's because if the if the customer is paying maybe $200 for 20 minutes of work they see you do, they think you're making $600/hr. But they're not seeing the experience it takes to make a job go quickly and smoothly, the cost of the tools, business expenses, drive time, background business time.

if i start my 7.3L diesel dually, my handyman charge is 100 just to start. This truck, tools and skills to pay the bills = 100 per hr. I'm busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest!

you charge 100 bucks to install a ceiling fan and it will cost you 80 to 100 dollars to do the job with truck costs insurance and other expenses people dont put that in perspective
