Service is the technical aspect of the experience. It's about whether the order was taken correctly. Was the food delivered on time? Was the table clean? Service is about efficiency, speed, and accuracy. It can be trained and measured. Hospitality, on the other hand, is what the customer feels. Did they feel welcome? Valued? Appreciated? Hospitality is emotional. It's about intention, connection, and small touches that come from the heart, not just training. In successful restaurants, excellent service is the foundation, but true hospitality is what keeps customers coming back. You served the food in 10 minutes? Great. But did you smile? Use the guest's name? Ask them how their day was? That's hospitality. Personally, I think the best teams combine both: They offer competent service and heartfelt hospitality.
