This is how you can do the same testing as Liverpool

Ideally you want to perform this around a running track so your data is accurate. Having changes of directions/ hills, etc is going to create to much nose in your testing, meaning your time/speed isn’t a true measurement of just max aerobic speed 

The 6 minute time trial works really well as you can’t cheat this. Where another common test such as a 1.5 mile you can

This is how you calculate it 
MAS = Distance (Meters) / Time (Seconds) 
If you run 1500 metres in 6 minutes: MAS = 1500/ 360 =4.17 m/s (Metres per second) From there you can calculate your critical speed 
For footballers this is around 75-80% of your V02 max

You also want to calculate your speed v from a 40m sprint

Now you have a speed endurance profile, from there you can target specific conditioning and strength modality’s that is specific to you to improve your performance through out the game

It’s a lot more complicated but I hope this helps get you started
