@antdsply: In betrayal recovery, one of the hardest truths to understand is this: shame and empathy cannot lead at the same time. When someone operates from shame, they often shut down, deflect, minimize, or get defensive…not because they don’t care, but because shame makes them focus on protecting themselves instead of understanding your pain. The problem is, betrayal healing requires empathy. It requires the ability to sit with the damage, take accountability, and stay emotionally present without collapsing or turning away. When shame is in the driver’s seat, repair gets blocked… and the betrayed partner is left feeling even more unseen, unheard, and alone. This is why understanding the difference between shame and empathy is so important in healing relationships after betrayal. ❤️‍🩹 #shame #empathy #cheating #betrayalrecovery #infidelity

I wish my husband had this understanding & had realised I was never fighting against him when anything was brought up or triggered from what he had done. He had listened to me waiting to respond in defence instead of truly hearing me - the basic needs i was asking for & also see that as deeply that he had hurt me in his actions- I woke up everyday choosing him. Choosing to live in the discomfort & hurt because I wanted to spend my life with him. I wanted to be one of the couples that actually worked on our marriage no matter how hard things were temporarily & come out stronger & more connected & not be just another statistic where now a days people will walk away from a marriage or relationship instead of facing the hard uncomfortable hurtful times together & trying every way in to remain true to the vows we made to each other which to me i still very much stand by separated or not, because I made those vows with true faith & because he was, is & will be the only man I ever wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I wish we had both been stronger & more gentle to& with each other but I guess somethings you just see or realise too late 💔

Because they focus on their wonds and then they can’t show up emotionally safe to rebuild the trust and the safety back. They get defensive, trying to protect their shame. That’s exactly what I’m dealing with I wish I never gave a second chance 😭

It is important to speak the sin out loud as part of our self work and our testimony. If anything, when we no longer carry shame, we are able to look inwardly at who we WERE when we made those hurtful decisions, and submit those things to God through trust, obedience, and intentional labor to correct it. We WANT our partner to admit and acknowledge to the real wrong that was done. Not to condemn or to shame, but to see real self-reflection and change. It is hard to say, "I trust you" after a harm like that. And it is harder still to say, "Let's keep going" when the person who broke their covenant is unwilling to speak to the reality of the decisions that they made. But speaking to those realities does not condemn that person; it confesses and frees that person, even if the offended party is unwilling to forgive. And then it leaves the choice of peace apart or peace together, forgiveness apart, forgiveness together, or even bitterness forever in the hands of that person who also has to lead their own healing.
