But I just looked at a sailboat where even if you paid me $5,000, I still wouldn’t want it. Why? Because the plane was pure experience. The boat was work. That’s something I’ve learned about myself: I’m an experience collector, not a stuff collector. I’ll spend real money on something I’ll remember forever. A private flight. Swimming with sperm whales in Dominica. Flying somewhere wild. Learning a new skill. Doing something that actually makes life feel bigger. But when it comes to physical stuff, I get stingy fast. Because a lot of stuff doesn’t just cost money. It costs time. Maintenance. Repairs. Registration. Storage. Security. Managing it. Thinking about it. That’s why I’m fine spending 10k on an unforgettable trip, but I’m still driving a $2,700 Corolla. A lot of people collect objects. I think I collect moments.
