Barnes believed in the war. The machine is what he believed in. Keep going no matter what. Elias did not believe in the war. He knew we had lost the war. But he hadn’t given up on the human spirit. Barnes was win at all costs. No matter how many sacrifices. But at this point in the movie Elias was don’t with it. He was there for two years. He even said at first yes, he believed in it. But now, no.
