There is no need to add the word "city" when asking, "What is the capital of the Philippines?" While the word "capital" can have multiple meanings (capital letter, financial capital, capital punishment, etc.), language is interpreted through context. When someone asks for the capital of a nation, the default and universally accepted interpretation is its seat of government. Arguing that the answer could be "P" is an example of literal ambiguity, but it ignores contextual meaning. By that logic, many ordinary questions would become impossible to answer without excessive clarification. "Capital city" is not wrong, but it is technically redundant because "capital of a country" already implies a city. Therefore, the question "What is the capital of the Philippines?" is grammatically correct, sufficiently specific, and the accepted answer is Manila.

hindi pwedeng gamitin ang "capital city" gaya ng mga nabasa ko sa mga comments.. not all capital cities ay binabanggit na may "city".. Manila for example ay under Metro Manila (NCR) kaya hindi madalas tawaging Manila City.. gaya din ng Berlin, Vienna, Kuala Lumpur, etc.
