for those unaware, this is an inaccurate narrative. the dragon boat festival originated from ancient folk customs of warding off epidemics and offering sacrifices to dragons, before it gradually evolving into a traditional festival centered on commemorating Qu Yuan over time. explained more below 👇🏻

This was so interesting and I would never consider that man a loser. He was a great patriot who loved his country.

Zongzi existed before Quyuan, it was always a domestic type of food, but Quyuan’s story gave the food its meaning, thus becoming a part of the culture, a representative of spirit/belief of loyalty and sacrifices for his country & people.

Qu Yuan reminds me the greek philosopher, Socrates. He also died for his beliefs, his principles.
Thank you for your cultural work

In Vietnamese, his name is Khuất Nguyên. My dad bought me a book about him and the root of lunar 5th May celebration so long ago, when I was 7-8 years old I think. I read the book like 1000 times and the picture of him standing by the river bank with 2 hands holding back is still vivid in my memory now. That is my first lesson about Chinese history and culture, which I love to explore ‘til today.
