Many people who comment on these types of segments have no idea how franchise models work. I have owned a franchise and what 7/11 is doing is disgraceful.
When a franchise agreement is nearing its expiry you are given the option to renew unless there have been serious breaches on the part of the franchisee. Once they were told they couldn't renew they tried to sell, which is well within their right.
Head office blocked all potential buyers and took over the store with no compensation given to the franchisee. Given that this has now happened to multiple franchisees it seems that 7/11 is looking to move away from a franchise model. Meaning that this will likely to continue to happen until corporate reclaim all 750 stores in Australia.

Hi everyone,
I would like to share my experience as a former 7-Eleven franchisee.
In my opinion, the issue is not just about 7-Eleven taking back stores end of the 10 years agreement from franchisees. Since around 2022, I have seen what appears to be a pattern where minor alleged breaches of the franchise agreement are used to terminate franchisees and take over stores.
I owned two 7-Eleven stores in Sydney. An allegation involving approximately $297 was used against me, and I ultimately lost both stores. Those stores were worth around $1.7 million, and I received nothing in return.
I am sharing my story so that current and prospective franchisees understand the risks, carefully

There is case law about this .. these guys need lawyers and to read the legal battle between hungry jacks franchises and Burger King .. Burger King did exactly what 711 are doing and lost big time. Had to pay millions to the franchises. They need to all join together and file joint law suit

Javid got a great bargain. $1 million for 10 years. That's $100k / year or $2k a week for land, buildings, petrol pumps, permits, council approval, everything setup and ready to do business.

Thanks guys first thing is when the aggrement expires there should be something to the franchisee, it’s fair . Also remember the franchise takes cuts every day/week. Finally if the franchise has their side of story they need to face the media, not just press release.

So he paid $1m to have use of their assets and branding for a specific term. But Current Affair tell their audience this was “buying the business” then educate viewers on how to boycott the corporation without hurting franchisees. There’s so much wrong with this.

I owned a Franchise in NZ and the best advice I can give anyone is never ever invest your hard earned money into a Franchise. The only one who benefits and makes money is the franchisor. It’s a pyramid scheme.
