@augustknoxcoaching: I spent decades believing that there must be something wrong with me because I was so frustrated with how I was treated. I assumed I needed to be more patient, be more understanding, communicate better or just all around be “better.” And it was absolute garbage. There was no winning because the scapegoat game is rigged & the only option is losing yourself & keeping your family or choosing yourself & loosing your family. I’ve tried both, I’ve lived both & and I’ve been backed into corners where I had no option but to choose. Each hurts but they hurt differently. If you’re the scapegoat, I say this with the utmost compassion (because I’ve been there,) but it’s not going to change. You are not one day going to wake up and get their understanding. They benefit from you playing the scapegoat role. But if you’re done with it.... you get to be the cycle breaker, the GOAT the one who chooses themself & quite honestly, that is WAY more rewarding than fitting into a family that can’t love you for who you naturally are.
